download that please, its right off of the sane webisite I posted a link for before, you shouldnt be downloading a freakin rpm, your using a debian based OS
somebody else with ubuntu experience can walk you thru compiling and installing it, cause you wil more than likely have to install gcc and the needed c libraries too cause I think ubuntu doesnt install those either by default
Im also pretty certain you can use apt-get and install sane as well, use your package manager and check
personally I really hate ubuntu, others swear by it, methinks it should be sweared at
