i m about to run y dvd player over with my car.
i have few movies in MP4 format and my dvd player doesnt play that.

it plays avi files from thumb drive.

so i figure ok i convert it to avi.
i wish it was that simple... why the **** do we need 3000 formats to play a movie?

this is really frustrating

i spent hours converting this from one format to another i tried 4-5 different programs and all kinds of different settings but none of them worked so far.

can someone help me setup the converter so it would play on my dvd player?

i use ANY VIDEO CONVERTER btw

thats what i ve been doing for last few weeks.
theres too much info.

all im asking is for encoder settings that work for sure.

I have used the same program you are using and it does work for sure. As does every program i have listed in there. So i dont know what your asking. As they work just fine for me.

i tried to convert from mp4
the file size is about 1.6gb

after converting the avi file size was about 2.4gb

i set the maximum supported resolution according to dvd player's manual
avi xvid,720x480,30fps framerate,...

and set it to encode audio in mp3 at 320kbps 2 channel 44.1

it would try to load the movie and then come back to the main menu with the list of movies.

it plays all the other movies i have that are around 800 mb.

i didnt think there would be a filesize limit for video file on the dvd player

i have the samsung DVD-1080P9

audio settings are wrong

dvd compatible means the audio has to be encoded in AC3 format or mpeg2 with constant bitrate

go here:
VideoHelp.com - Forum, Guides, Tools and hardware lists and look up the specs for DVD(see left side of screen)

a couple different freeware programs can do this:
try avidemux2 or virtualdubmod---just watch out for audio synch problems, if the source has a variable bitrate audio track it often causes problems, best way around that is to strip the audio from the main file and encode it separately then mux them back together
