PC's do not output analog. They output digital. the quality of the Digital to Audio Converter can and does make the difference. Of course you'll never get anything better out than what can go in. If you work pc only outputs 48hgz @ 24 bit (which is not horribly bad) then find another device to listen to your tunes at work. Try this at home...set your audio for 48hgz @ 24 bit and listen for several hours (or a day or two) and then set it to 192hgz @24 bit and see if your ears can tell a noticeable difference enough to make you want to do something else for your work pc.
