Hi
in my 3.5 inch drives i have got a 160 gig hard drive and a floppy drive.
the hard disk literally kisses the surface of the bay.

i have the 3.5 bay in the following configuration.

floppy drive
empty space
hard disk

now because of the hard drive kissing the surface of the bay, i was concerned about its safety. i was wondering if it would be better to have it in the following configuration

floppy drive
hard disk
empty space

this way the bottom of the hard drive has an empty space to emit its heat. but the top is in close proximity to the floppy drive.

I usually like having the top of my hard drive open whenever I can. The heat seems to collect up there the most.

The PCB on the underside of a HD is designed so that it doesnt short with anything below it, as of course its going to be put into tight metal spaces.
Leavign it where it is as Frag said would improove cooling lengthening the life of the hard drive and the reliability of your system.

Why not do this:

Floppy
Empty
Hard Drive

Then just cut out the divider between the Empty space and the Hard Drive and then the Hard Drive will have twice the amount of space.

Will this even work, I dont think I even know what i'm talking about lol.
