I'm looking to set up a wireless network at home, and I want to buy a decent router / wireless PCI card. The thing is, I would like to have a decent signal going through 2 floors (basement to 2nd floor). The house is pretty old and the floors are relatively hollow/thin (no concrete etc..).. is having a clear signal through 2 floors an infeasible thing?

Otherwise, am I looking to spend on ton on equipment?
One last thing - I also have a machine with oneboard wireless (Asus A8V-E Deluxe) - would anyone know if that matches up to the PCI wireless cards?

almost every router sold today should be able to go through two floors no problem. just put the router on the first floor so that it can shoot up to the 2nd floor and down to the basement.

I have linksys routers and wireless cards and they have always worked for me.

I always find inbuilt wireless works much better than a PCI card. My laptop NEVER loses connection and goes through 3 floors.

I would highly recommend linksys myself. WRT54G is an excellent 50$ router, B and G signal capable and gives great signal strength and has multiple protection authentications.
