How to transfer your Mac's HD info to another

I plan on upgrading to an SDD in the future. So how do I take what is on my current Mac's HD and transfer it onto the SSD?

Could try CloneZilla to see if it would clone the Mac partitions over.

Would have to resize the partition(s) to a size that's smaller or equal size than the SSD first though if your original HDD is larger. I recommend GParted for this task.

I just started with a fresh OSX and put my HDD in an enclosure and moved what i needed over from there. I didn't want to fill up the SSD with stuff not needed. If you need everything though, have you tried restoring from time capsule? If the SSD is smaller than your HHD, then I'd recommend what carnagex says.

But how do you start with a fresh OS X? Did you format your hdd then transfer it over? Because they don't have installation disks for OS X Lion.

Download the Lion installer from the Mac App Store, connect your new drive via enclosure/USB and install Lion onto the new drive.

If you've already got Lion, it shouldn't require you to purchase the download.
But I don't know that for sure.
