Okay so i bought two external hard drives today (both 20GB), i booted up and installed linux on the first one just fine. So, when i went to install windows xp, i booted up through the CD, formatted the External Harddrive, and it added the important "setup" files for XP. After it restarted...

yeah but the cable didn't have a master and slave on it, just a master, it's weird... but hey... it's a compaq so what do you expect.

You'd think that would be a reasonable solution, however there were no extra IDE connections for the board. there was only the one for the harddrive.

I bought a USB cd-drive it's an iomega, and i've put in the install disc and tried plugging the USB into all the different ports and then booting through the USB, but it never does anything, it goes straight to the harddrive then says "Non-System Disc Error - Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart"

Ok, it's an old compaq ipaq, so it doesn't even have the IDE connection to add a CD drive to it (or i already would have), but i need to get an OS installed on it, and i'm not sure how to do it, since i don't have a CD drive that will work for it. Is there another way of doing it?

I just went ahead and formatted the WinXP Pro computer and i'm going to do a reinstall. I think that part of the problem, was that i had WinXP Home originally installed on it, and i just used the upgrade feature to go to Pro, so it may have caused a few problems. At anyrate i'm still updating...

turns out that ANY change in resolution would result in this error, after i tried to play a few games i figured it out. I just formatted and i'm starting over. It's slowed down by a LOT for some reason though :confused:
