    windows driver translator? possible? exists?

Is it possible for a program to take an old driver (say for an older scanner) and recompile it to create a new driver that would work on win 7, 8, 10? Sure, it probably be inefficient, bloated and such, but allow the use of old but still functional equipment to be used. Idea being, that the...

Slowing fans down to make them quieter, startup circuit

Some DC powered vent and cooling fans can be annoyingly noisy, and slowing them down sometimes helps. Assuming that the fan still does enough cooling, you can run the fan on lower voltage. But beyond a certain point, the fan won't get started below some voltage. But if you gently finger...

    Painting PC Parts

I've heard that painted heat sinks work better, but it must depend on what kind of paint. Something that puts a thick layer on it should be wrong, but using say a magic marker may work. It's just to radiate more infrared, if you use a fan there likely is no point in painting the heat sinks.

    Choosing a router

You could try doing a speed test, XFINITY Speed Test Wireless likely would slow you down, a wired connection (ethernet cat 5 cable) would be better, if possible.

It's been running a few days now, before it would always hang after a...

Toshiba Vista Satellite laptop doesn't like to share switch

I have an old Linksys switch, a EZXS55W 5 port. but after several hours my Toshiba laptop Satellite (Vista) looses its network connection, if there is something else sharing this switch. Also happens if I use an old D-link router set up as a switch. But a more modern Linksys BESR41 router...

Repairing power supply in my Linksys RV016 router

Hi, new to this forum. I'm mostly a hardware guy, not much on SW. Which means I have a chance to do a power supply repair ;) This router seems to be able to cope with power restorations after a power failure better than "consumer grade" routers. In that when the cable modem gets done...
