    Audio/Video on a mac.

I've always thought one reason people in graphics design prefer working with Mac OS to Windows is the way the interface handles windows. When working with many images, the way windows 'float' unconnected to any tool pallets or menu-bars is easier to deal with when bringing graphics between...

    New Earth Like Planet..

The fact that space is infinite? Not quite. Space doesn't have to be infinite. Actually, most of what we know points to the contrary. Anyway, these findings are fascinating, even if we can't really do anything about it in the present. We can't even "look" at it with any kind of current...

Someone tell me what this is....

I once responded to one of these a few years ago to see what would happen. I first tried to act skeptical, they didn't seem to get it, the responses just became more nonsensical (I guess they didn't understand and got excited). As the conversation progressed, I spoke to his "lawyer" ("Barister...

MAC's are just as vulnerable as any other...it just takes money

The only true type of secure computer is an offline one. Any computer on the internet can be "pwned". Now, you'll never hear me claim that Mac OS or Linux can't be hacked, but in a way, this whole thing sort of supports the security of one area of Mac OS X: If I understand that corrently, the...

    Firewire VS USB

False, false, and I'm not sure about the last point, so I can't comment there. FireWire, first thing, is a standard. It's technical name is IEEE1394, and it wasn't a Sony creation, it was originally (I believe) an Apple creation. FireWire is the name Apple gave it, Sony used to call it...

    Virginia Tech shootings

Virginia Tech massacre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (contains links, obviously, of most of the standard online news sources on this, and is constantly updated) Upsetting and rather scary.

    Electric Universe

I'm calling bull. It changes nothing we know about the universe because it's wrong. I have no time to watch the entire video, but I read some of the synopsis on their site, and I can already see fallacies on the first bit of "scientific" text they present (link) They quickly claim the big bang...

    Mac Users Numbers Declining?

Nope. These things fluctuate. Besides, data from websites is hardly what you could call accurate. 0.3% is easily less than the margin of error here. But even on the assumption of it being accurate, I don't think Apple would be worrying. Think about it: the number of people with computers is...

    300

Right. Basic historical context. Plenty of fiction in there though. The Persians didn't exactly have any access to strange monsters. Spartan society was pretty idealized in the film as well, which is a a bit strange (I doubt many of us would want to have grown up as a Spartan). The film include...

    Technology related pranks

No problem. I take no responsibility for damage caused. ;) Anyway, here's something a bit different. For anyone with a printer that has a closed paper tray (most lasers), put in a page covered with a giant bold message of your choice, facing whatever direction necessary to get their next...

    Software piracy: Pros and cons

Well, that's not strictly true. There are plenty of artists who haven't "made it big". On the other hand, the recording industry seems screw many of them over regardless of piracy, so I'm not sure if the point is relevant.

What Linux distro do you use?

I've been a Gentoo user for a couple years now. It runs very well and I like Portage. On the other hand, if I had to do it again, I'd probably choose something else, because I wouldn't really want to spend another week compiling all the software I need for a working system.

    Read Command and File Paths

Tab-completion in a bash script, right? I'm pretty sure it's possible because I seem to recall seeing it. Not sure how you would accomplish it. Off to Google (not exactly being clear or helpful here) Edit: Is this helpful?

    Qiranworms

Wow, thanks everyone! I did indeed have a cake, though without the angular pink frosting. Getting the cookie is, on the other hand, a work in progress. Now to spend the rest of this birthday doing linear algebra (it must be done)
