Make sure in steam you have your connection speed set to whatever connection speed you actually have.

I don't know exactly what it does but my guess would be that it re renders that fuzzy cube as fast as possible and somehow compares it to what it should look like to see if there are artifacts.

That's artifacting. ATI tool seems to be the best at pushing cards to the absolute limit to see if it will artifact, try clocking it a bit lower and it should go away.

R1C0CH3T You really should get a better PSU, you are risking your hardware having that one in it. I seriously doubt that the hard drive caused any graphical errors, the hard drive isn't even accessed much usually during games after stuff is in ram. You should have a 500+ Watt quality power...

I'd go with the logitech one myself, the other ones look like awkward shapes. I myself use the mx518, which is like the G5 except the older version. The G5 was out at the time but I don't like how it doesnt have a back button, and I dont like how the mouse wheel moves to the left and right.

As LU4sTrooper said, you can't really expect tons of performance out of that laptop. However there are some more things that you can do that will help. 1. Optimize windows to minimize memory usage (get rid of some of the un nesessary services). 2. Set a page file that won't change in size...

Vsynch is Vertical Synchronization, it makes sure that there is no tearing in the screen by synching the vertical and the horizontal parts of the screen (im not exactly sure how it works) however it will limit your FPS to 60 in counterstrike. 60 fps though is fine and you probably won't notice...

Try taking off the overclocks and running FEAR and see if it still happens.

Just for future reference, there are DOS emulators that run in windows XP that will allow you to run dos programs. DOSBOX is probably the best one there is, that way you can avoid having to dual boot.
