Your system is more than enough to run Vista smoothly, so I would make sure all of your drivers are up to date. I would also test the RAM with memtest to make sure that checks out alright.

First I would make sure the computer is clean inside. Dust can cause heat build up which could make certain components unstable and cause it to crash. Next, I would make sure all drivers are up to date and finally I would check the power supply.

I think it may be your processor. Games run on the Source engine require a solid CPU to play games smoothly. (Not saying my computer is very powerfull) but even I lag when there is more than 20 people in a server. Anything lower than that and it's very nice. Try creating a server by yourself...

I'm sure there are modes including 64, 32, 16 and such but since you have recent memory technology it's at 128. This is good. I know video cards can support up to 512 bit which is pretty nice. I don't think normal system ram goes above 128 yet though.

You may want to check to see if you have accumulated some dust inside or on the northbridge heatsink. I'm assuming that is where the temperature sensor is that you are talking about. Dust can do more than you think... try taking a can of compressed air or do what I do, use an air compressor.

The problem is your cpu. While it's not a slow cpu, it is getting outdated and you could record gameplay much better if you had a newer, and better cpu. But, even then it would probably still be lagging you a tad.

To me, it sounds like an OS problem. You might want to try reinstalling windows.
