Do you have any form of setup diagnostics that came with your mobo? Maybe a system of 4 lights? If so look up in the manual what those four lights mean.
I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a dodgy memory stick - i would recommend trying another memory stick if possible.

Have you run an anti-virus program? You can download one for free from the downloads section of this website - or my personal favourite - the Avast antivirus program.

The only other thought i have is that your onboard sound chip may have broken! Try using a different sounds card, if that works then we can isolate the problem to the on board sound, if it doesnt then it is probably a software based problem
